Parental leave during the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany: Women who became mothers during the pandemic take longer employment interruptions

Abstract

"The family related employment interruption after the birth of a child results in long-term negative career consequences for mothers. Thereby, the duration of the interruption plays a crucial role. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been far-reaching upheavals in the labour market, such as a drastic increase in short-time work and major cuts in state-subsidized childcare. Against this backdrop, we analyse whether family related employment interruption for mothers were extended during the pandemic." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
