Contributing factors for successful vocational rehabilitation of persons with mental illnesses from different perspectives

Abstract

"People with mental illnesses face particular challenges when it comes to integration and reintegration into the labor market. Benefits for participation in working life (LTA) are intended to provide support here. This article looks at the situation of people with mental illnesses in LTA provided by the German Federal Employment Agency from various perspectives. Based on qualitative interviews with people working at service providers, employment agencies and job centers, as well as vocational rehabilitation clients with mental illnesses themselves. The conditions for successful vocational rehabilitation and labour market integration are identified at various levels. More individuality and flexibility in the provision of programmes, continuous support and, above all, the time factor, e. g. regarding long waiting times on the one hand and too little time in the clarification phase ((health) diagnostics and occupational assessment), the rehabilitation process and aftercare on the other, are key factors."
