The key question: Further occupational training between aspirations and reality
Abstract
"Issue 1/2010 is devoted to the 'key question' of Germany's future viability. Labour market requirements in the modern knowledge society are changing constantly. For a country that owes its prosperity above all to the higher qualifications of its employees, further occupational training is essential. At the same time there are considerable deficits - and a multitude of questions that the authors of this issue examine closely:
- Does further training also reach those who need it the most, such as the low-skilled?
- Does it likewise reach women, older persons, migrants and persons with special needs?
- What effect has the recent economic crisis had on the offers of further training provided by the state and individual companies - for instance in the course of short-time work?
Forum Interview: Raimund Becker, Member of the Executive Board of the Federal Employment Agency. Mr Becker describes the tasks and challenges met by the employment agency administration with regard to further training.
Also in this issue: Analyses of the professional mobility of humanities and social science graduates and of sanctions for the young unemployed under SGB II (Book II of the Social Code) as well as an essay dealing with the Hartz IV reform from a social history perspective."
