Balanceakt: Zuwanderung steuern, Integration fördern

Abstract

"The issue focuses on the topics of migration and integration. In view of demographic change, Germany - a country more people are now emigrating from than immigrating to - is urgently dependent upon making the most of the employment potential of the migrants who live here and on attracting qualified workers from abroad. The authors of the articles on these topics examine the following questions among others: What effects will the complete opening of the German labour market as of May 2011 have? Which groups of persons will profit from immigration? And, how well are immigrants of German origin integrated into the German labour market?<br> In addition, this issue includes analyses of the results that the austerity package recently concluded by the Federal Government has had on employment and analyses of the effects of the global financial and economic crisis in international comparison. In two further contributions, IAB researchers explain how they make use of randomization in the evaluation of labour market policy programmes and what significance the works of the economists who were awarded the Nobel Prize for economics in 2010 have for IAB research."
