Chances and barriers of labor migration to Germany. IAB Statement on the hearing at the German Council of Economic Experts on 13 October 2022

Abstract

"In preparation for the 2022/2023 annual report of the German Council of Economic Experts (Sachverständigenrat zur Begutachtung der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Entwicklung), the IAB was asked to provide its expertise on strategies for a successful recruitment of foreign workers focusing on the effects of the Immigration Act (March 2020), on the so-called“Western Balkan Regulation” and on the Government’s proposals for further legal changes such as the introduction of an “Opportunity Card” (“Chancenkarte”). The findings that the IAB presented in this regard in fall 2022 are summarized in this statement." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
