Betriebliche Arbeitszeitstrukturen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland
Abstract
"This report marks the end of the research project 'Betriebliche Arbeitszeitstrukturen in Deutschland' (IAB-project 0-390.16 V/ BAuA: F 1852) and it shows the most important results of the IAB-establishment panel from 1996 to 1999. The focus is pointed at the statistical gathering and characterisation of the working time structures in the Federal Republic of Germany, which deviates in many ways from the normal working time standard. Thereby this deviation takes place an the enterprise level, with the effort to decouple the individual working time from the enterprise working time. Consequently, there are adjustments of duration, circumstances and arrangements of the individual working time. The analysis of full-time and part-time jobs, operating times and individually arranged working times of shift-work, weekend-work, overtime-work and jobs with working time accounts has shown that the enforcement of full-time employment is losing importance only partly. Furthermore, the analysis indicates that the use of measures of flexible working time can be quite effective to protect employment. Particularly working time accounts are beginning to prevail and are able to accomplish a positive contribution to increase employment stability and are also able to give more individual responsibility to working time."
