Qualification (in)adequacy as a mediator of educational returns : overqualification and social inequality. A research overview
Abstract
"Inadequate employment exists if qualifications and skills acquired in education and training exceed the requirements of the occupation held on the labour market. Accordingly, investments in education cannot be entirely utilized and converted into appropriate returns. The risk of being employed inadequately varies with diverse determinants and is consequently unequally distributed in the society. Therefore, the consequences of inadequate employment are concentrated on certain social groups, which (re-)produces social inequalities in societies. This paper focuses on this relation and explores - based on empirical evidence - the embeddedness of determinants and consequences of inadequate employment in the context of the (re)production of social inequality."
