Abstract

"Immigration to Germany has a major Impact on the demographic development in Germany. However, not only the immigration flows, but also the processes of emigration must be taken into account. This article forecasts the immigration and emigration of citizens of the European Union to and from Germany (excluding Germans) for the years 2018 to 2040. The forecasts show that the number of arrivals from elsewhere in the European Union will diminish over time. This is mainly due to the process of population ageing which characterizes not only Germany but also the primary EU countries of origin of migrants, such as Poland and Romania."
