Effects of the German minimum wage : An IAB comment prepared for a hearing of the German Minimum Wage Commission on March 19th 2020

Abstract

"The German Minimum Wage Commission has to decide on the new level of the German minimum wage until June 30th 2020. The decision is presented to the German government in the third report on the effects of the minimum wage. Therefore, the Minimum Wage Commission collected expert statements in a hearing of external experts. In this report, the IAB discusses the current scientific state of research on the effects of the German minimum wage introduction, thereby addressing effects on employees' wages, poverty, employment as well as productivity and profitability. The presented report updates previous IAB reports on the effects of the German minimum wage (IABStellungnahme 3/2016 and 1/2018)." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
