Shorter maximum length of receipt of transfers of unemployment benefit and effects on entries into unemployment
Abstract
"In February 2006, German legislature shortened the maximal duration of receipt of unemployment benefit for older employees from previously 32 months to 18 months. Shortly before the reform, a relatively large number of older employees were unemployed; after the law came into force, on the other hand, there were notably less than before the reform. The ZEW (Centre for European Economic Research), das IAB (Institute for Employment Research) and the Nottingham School of Economics have examined more closely the effects of this reform on the entry rates of the groups of persons concerned into unemployment."
