Abstract

"This brief expertise examines whether and to what extent the recent immigration since 2005 unburdens the funding of the German pension system and stabilizes the contribution rate. Chapter 1 outlines the leading research questions and Chapter 2 provides a description of the IAB-SOEP Migration Sample and the Microcensus. In Chapter 3, the composition of the foreign-born Immigration is analyzed with respect to socioeconomic characteristics and educational background. Subsequently, Chapter 4 outlines the current labour market integration of immigrants and their employment situation depending on the duration of residence. In this context, the report highlights to what extent return migration and outmigration patterns impact the benefit of immigration on the pension system. The following Chapter 5 supplements this by presenting a stochastic forecast of the foreign population. Finally, results are summarized and discussed." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
