Minimum Wage and Job Vacancies

Abstract

Following the implementation of the uniform minimum wage, one may expect increasing wage adjustments in the low-wage sector. Based on the IAB Job Vacancy Survey, we look at changes in employers' hiring behaviour after the minimum wage introduction. Particular focus is given to the question of whether firms’ requirements for minimum wage positions increased and whether this led to a lower number of suitable applicants and longer search durations.
