Abstract
Based on adminitsrative data on welfare benefit receipt and employment biographies, this projects aims at examining the degree to which there is labour market attachment among unemployment benefit-II-recipients. This is done in two steps: in a first step past and present labour market participation, participation in programmes of active labour market policy, times in unemployment, inactivity and in welfare benefit receipt are reconstructed for current benefit recipients and classified regarding past and present labour market attachment. In particular for long-term benefit recipients it is examined if benefit receipt goes hand in hand with long times without any labour market activity and / or if there are long episodes of benefit receipt in spite of labour market participation.
In a second step we a sequence analysis to identify typical patterns of benefit receipt and employment participation for for first-time unemployment benefit II-recipients in 2007-2009 in first three years after entry into benefit receipt.
