Project

The feasibility of using administrative data for career research

Project duration: 31.01.2009 to 30.12.2011

Abstract

This project is undertaken to assess the feasibility of using administrative register data for research on the labour careers of individuals. The main question is how such administrative data can be utilized to reach a better understanding of the multi-dimensional aspects that affect individuals on their paths from initial education throughout their potential labour careers. This feasibility study makes use of German administrative register data from the Beschaftigten- und Leistungsempfanger- Historik (BLH) and IEB administrative registers started in 1975 in the former country of West Germany. The register includes all individuals covered by public social security contributions with the exception of civil servants and self-employed persons.
