Project

Einfluss des Ausbildungsbetriebs auf den Übergangserfolg nach dualer Ausbildung

Project duration: 31.05.2006 to 30.07.2014

Abstract

Private enterprises contribute high investments to their firm based apprenticeship training. So it is surprising that the linkage between training and employment is not that strong as expected. Every second trainee leaves the training firm at the end of apprenticeship training. However there is some remarkable variation in the transition from apprenticeship training into the first job. Beyond observable and unobservable heterogeneity on the individual level mobility pattern seems to be correlated with characteristics of the training firm and the field of vocation.

A first paper of this project is focused on the labour market position in the first year after finishing apprenticeship training: A multivariate logit model distincts between three defined outcomes: becoming employed in the training firm, becoming employed in another firm or becoming unemployed/scheme participant.

A second paper asks in how far characteristics of the training firm and vocational field of apprenticeship training determine continuous employment perspectives after finishing apprenticeship training. We assume that firm specific training costs create specific strategies of training. The later determine specific employment perspectives. Logit/Probit models estimate the access to employment, piecewise constant exponential models estimate duration of continuous employment.

IAB-IEB-data will be used, enriched with firm-specific data and BIBB-cost-benefit-data on apprenticeship training.
