Abstract

Terms such as digitalisation and Industry 4.0 describe systematic changes in the world of work brought about by the use of new technologies. These are currently the subject of intense debate in academia and society. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is particularly controversial in this context. The high level of attention and controversy surrounding this debate is contrasted by a comparative lack of reliable, representative data. In particular, data that could provide insight into which areas of working life are being fundamentally changed by advancing digitalisation and which specific technologies are responsible for this change are only available in isolated cases. The second survey on the spread and impact of digitalisation and change in the world of work (DiWaBe 2.0) highlights current trends in the spread and use of technologies and their impact on employees. Is the AI revolution advancing, and if so, why?
