Abstract

The project examines participants in transfer companies in the period 2013 to 2016 using process data from the Federal Employment Agency and compares the development of earnings and employment of participants since their dismissal with the development of employees who also ended their employment as a result of a comparable economic shock but did not have the opportunity to enter a transfer company. Our method takes into account that, as a result of self-selection, participants in transfer companies have a less favorable job outlook than employees who also had the offer of a transfer company but chose not to participate. The second part of the project is based on data on notifications of mass layoffs, which allow to use a much more precise date in the administrative data in the case of mass layoffs. The data thus obtained will be used to determine the economic impact of mass layoffs on employees and to compare it with traditional approaches.
