Housing Market, Earnings and Worker Mobility

Abstract
The project investigates how the opportunity cost of worker mobility affects wage setting at the firm level. We intend to use unique features of the German institutional environment to create new measures of differential housing costs to demonstrate the lock-in effect and adverse effects of recent developments in the housing market on employee earnings and productivity. The project will contribute to the literature on wage determination, regional migration, and regional economic development.
