Abstract
The project examines the decisive reason why a firm chooses one applicant over others in the hiring process. Often a specific qualification or occupation is requested, but the decisive reason why the decision for the selected applicant was made remains unknown. The IAB Job Vacancy Survey asked establishments for the decisive reason for hiring a specific applicant in 2013 and 2014. The project aims to detect the importance of personal, occupational, and qualification factors in the hiring process and whether there are differences according to occupation and required level of standard qualification.
