Living conditions of children in in low income households
Project duration: 01.01.2016 to 31.12.2017
Abstract
Within the project "Living conditions of children in in low income households" (LeKiE) life opportunities of children in poverty are analysed in cross-sectional, as well as in longitudinal perspectives. The project is divided into three work packages. Within the first work package, previous research is summarised in order to clarify the research questions for work package III. In the second work package the importance of different goods and aspects of social participation in households with children is considered and compared to relevance factors of households without children. Following a deprivation approach, this provides a basis for the direct measurement of living standard. Finally, the main object of the project is to analyse poverty among children in a longitudinal perspective in order to identify consequences from poverty conditions. Within work package III, poverty patterns among children are identified and special groups of persons and household constellations are taken into account. Finally, the impact of poverty experiences during childhood on other areas of life such as social participation or educational pathways should be considered. The project makes use of data from the German Panel Study "Labour Market and Social Security".
