Determinants of Employment Dynamics of Establishments Producing Environmental Goods and Services: Evidence from German Employer-Employee Data.
Project duration: 01.09.2014 to 15.12.2016
Abstract
Environmental goods and services are supposed to pay a double dividend: on the one hand, they are used to tackle environmental challenges such as climate change. On the other hand, the production of those goods and services contributes to the economic welfare by creating and securing jobs. However, do establishments producing environmental products and services really show a relatively better employment development? And which determinants of labor demand are promoting factors, which are restraints? To answer these questions, we use linked employment and regional data of the IAB. The IAB Establishment Panel wave 2012 enables us to identify establishments providing environmental goods and services precisely by specific subfields (e.g. climate protection, renewable energies, saving of energy) and their share in total turnover.
