Project

2nd international IAB/RCEA/ZEW Workshop "Spatial Dimensions of the Labour Market: The Relocation of Jobs"

Project duration: 04.07.2013 to 31.03.2014

Abstract

The rapid improvements of the information and communication technology change the nature of international
trade and its effects on labour markets. These technological advances enable firms to spatially slice up their value
chains through offshoring. In addition, firms are now able to trade tasks. Therefore, workers performing tradable
tasks are directly exposed to these changes and threatened by a relocation of their jobs. The 2nd Workshop on
Spatial Dimensions of the Labour Market focuses on a broad range of topics revolving around these and further
aspects of the relocation of jobs.
The three organizing institutions, Institute for Employment Research (IAB), Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis
(RCEA) and Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), aim to bring together frontier research of labour economists,
regional economists, geographers and scholars from related fields.
