Abstract

The project analyses options, gains and restraints of combined working time and vocational training schemes in Germany. Thus temporarily working time reductions could be invested in further education of the employees. In the long run this can help to cope with the growing demand for a highly qualified labour force. In the short run temporarily reductions of working time can increase the demand for labour and reduce unemployment. The research is based on the analysis of representative establishment surveys.
