The second threshold - Different ways of apprentices in Saxony into the labor market
Project duration: 01.01.2017 to 31.01.2018
Abstract
This paper analyzes the transition from appreticeship to the labor market in Saxony. Two cohorts of apprentices (1994/1995 and 2011/2012) are observed with regard to their continued employment, their switching behavior and the development of wages at this so-called second threshold. The results show that just under half of all apprentices in the 2011/2012 cohort continue to be employed in the establishment following their training. More than a third change the establishment. Around 15 percent had an interruption in their employment history (e.g. due to unemployment, parental leave, obtaining a higher qualification, etc.). In the 1994/1995 training cohort, the proportion of those who remained employed in the previous establishment was one third, about the same number changed the establishment and one third had an interruption in their employment history. This reflects the stable labor market situation observed in the recent past and currently at the second threshold.
