Was there something? The Perception of Discrimination in Germany
Project duration: 01.04.2022 to 31.12.2024
Abstract
Numerous studies worldwide and also in Germany have shown that people are disadvantaged in the labour market because of characteristics such as gender, religious affiliation, origin or skin colour. The perception of discrimination and its consequences, or the knowledge about it, varies considerably among the population and can deviate from objective measurements of discrimination. A prerequisite for effective countermeasures is therefore to understand how perceptions of discrimination are influenced. The project addresses the following research questions: What mechanisms lead to changes in perceptions of discrimination? Does an increased awareness of unequal treatment in the labour market and in society also lead to stronger support for policies to reduce unequal treatment? The project is part of the Research Association on Discrimination and Racism (FoDiRa) of the DeZIM research community.
