Development of East German establishments after reunification - linking the THA/BvS data with the administrative data of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB)
Project duration: 01.11.2020 to 31.12.2024
Abstract
The administrative establishment data of the IAB for East Germany are currently only available from 1992 onwards. Thus, information is missing for the key transition years 1989 to 1991, when massive upheavals took place. The aim of the project is to close the gap in the data by linking the Establishment History Panel (BHP) of the IAB with data from the Trust agency (“Treuhandanstalt”, THA) and the Federal Agency for Unification-derived Special Tasks (“Bundesanstalt für vereinigungsbedingte Sonderaufgaben”, BvS) of the Federal Archives. In this project, the FDZ is cooperating with the IWH to examine which analysis potentials are possible through the linkage, in particular to examine the development of East German establishments after reunification. The long-term goal is to make the new data set available to the research community via the Research Data Centre of the Federal Employment Agency.
