Till von Wachter studied economics at the University of Bonn and received a Ph.D. in economics at the University of California Berkeley in 2003.
He is Professor of Economics at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Faculty Director of the California Policy Lab’s UCLA site, Director of the Federal Statistical Research Data Center and a research professor at the Institute for Employment Research.
Till von Wachter was appointed an IAB Research Fellow in 2024.
His research focuses on labour economics, economics of aging and macroeconomics. Previous research issues include, for example: the effects of unemployment insurance and the long-term effects of job losses and displacements.
Till von Wachter has published the results of his research numerous major journals such as the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Labor Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics
