Marco Caliendo studied economics at the University of Manchester and the Goethe University Frankfurt where he also received his doctoral degree in April 2005. From 2009 until September 2011 he was the Research Director of the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn. Since October 2011, he is Program Director of the area “Evaluation of Labour Market Programs” at the IZA and Full Professor of Empirical Economics at the University of Potsdam.

Professor Caliendo was appointed an IAB Research Fellow in 2005.

His current research interests include the evaluation of labor market programs, job search and unemployment dynamics, self-employment/entrepreneurship, the influence of personality traits on economic outcomes, and applied microeconometrics.

Marco Caliendo has published his research in numerous major journals, such as the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Population Economics, the Journal of Economic Psychology, Small Business Economics and the Journal for Labour Market Research.
