Professional career and research topics
Hans-Peter Blossfeld studied Sociology, Economics, Social Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Regensburg. He received his Doctorate in Economics from the University of Mannheim in 1984, and his Habilitation (and Venia Legendi, 1987) in Sociology from the Free University of Berlin.
Blossfeld is Emeritus of Excellence of the Graduate Centre Trimberg Research Academy at the University Bamberg, Germany, since April 2020. He held the Chair of Sociology I at the Faculty for Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration at the University Bamberg from 2002 until 2020. From 2012 until 2017, he was on leave to take over the Chair of Sociology at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy).
Professor Blossfeld was appointed an IAB Research Fellow in 2012.
His research interests include life course research; globalisation research; educational and family sociology; labour market sociology; social inequality; demography; gender issues; statistics (in particular the use of modern longitudinal procedures) and methods of empirical social research (in particular longitudinal surveys).
Blossfeld has published the results of his research in numerous major journals, such as the European Sociological Review, International Sociology, and the Kölner Zeitschrift für Soziologie und Sozialpsychologie.
