Eileen Appelbaum studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania where she also received her Ph.D. She joined the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington D.C. (USA) in 2010 after eight years at Rutgers University as Professor and Director of the Center for Women and Work.
Professor Appelbaum was appointed an IAB Research Fellow in 2005.
Her current research focuses on low-wage work in the US and Europe; on work processes and quality of care in child care, health care and care of the elderly; and on policies and practices that support the compatibility of family and career work.
Eileen Appelbaum has published widely in major journals, such as Industrial Relations, the Industrial and Labor Relations Review, the British Journal of Industrial Relations and the International Labour Review.
