Anna Zaharieva studied mathematical economics at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Moscow and international economic relations at the University of Konstanz.

After completing her doctorate at the University of Konstanz in 2010, Anna Zaharieva was postdoctoral researcher and junior professor at Bielefeld University. She has been Professor of Labor Economics at Bielefeld University since 2020.

Anna Zaharieva was appointed an IAB Research Fellow in 2024.

Anna Zaharieva’s research focuses on migration economics and education economics. Moreover, she investigates the role of social networks for wage inequality, unemployment and social welfare.

She has published her research findings in numerous major journals, such as International Economic Review, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Economics, Journal of Public Economic Theory and Labour Economics.
