Prof. Dr. Herman G. van de Werfhorst

Herman van de Werfhorst is a professor of sociology at the European University Institute (EUI) while being on leave from the University of Amsterdam. He obtained his PhD at the ICS/University of Nijmegen in 2001. Between 2000 and 2002, he was a Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. Between 2002 and 2022, he taught sociology at the department of sociology of the University of Amsterdam, since 2007 as a full professor. He is a member of the Dutch Education Council (his membership will expire in 2022), the highest advisory body on educational matters for the Dutch government and parliament. His research interests include the sociology of education, social stratification and mobility, labour market sociology, and quantitative methodology and statistics.
