Foreign trade, consequences of the crisis, and the labour market

The current geopolitical situation and increasing protectionism, for example through tariffs, are having a detrimental impact on Germany’s international trade relations and on those of the European Union as a whole. The strong euro and uncertainty about US import tariffs are putting a strain on the export sector.

Now there is added uncertainty about the course of the war in Iran. Rising energy prices adversely affect the economy and are dampening purchasing power. Economic expectations for the next few months have already slumped for the US, the eurozone and for China. An extended conflict would impair global supply chains, and companies that rely on imported goods would be forced to curtail their activities.

Economic weakness also remains evident in the labour market, with improvement unlikely over the next few months.

On this page we have compiled a list of IAB publications and projects that are related to the subject of foreign trade, consequences of the crisis, and the labour market.
