Apart from dataset descriptions and methodology reports, the FDZ literature database contains numerous research papers written on the basis of the data provided by the FDZ. Here you can find currently ungoing research projects of FDZ users.

    "The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is the research unit of the German Federal Employment Agency. Via the Research Data Centre (FDZ) at the IAB, administrative and survey data on individuals and establishments are provided to researchers. In cooperation with the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), the FDZ has implemented the Job Submission Application (JoSuA) environment which enables researchers to submit jobs for remote data execution through a custom-built web interface. Moreover, two types of user-generated output files may be distinguished within the JoSuA environment which allows for faster and more efficient disclosure review services."     "In the past couple of years, the demand for administrative data, commercial data, and other large data sources in social sciences has increased tremendously. Especially in survey operations, administrative data are considered a highly valuable resource to mitigate errors in the survey process and empirical analyses. The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) of the German Federal Employment Agency (BA), for instance, conducts large-scale national surveys of individuals, households, and establishments - often in combination with interviewer observations and other paradata. In addition, the IAB holds labor market data collected from administrative records, which consist of employer notifications to social security and information about unemployment benefits or welfare receipts claimed at agencies of the BA.     "The 'Data without Boundaries' (DwB) project funded by the FP7 Framework Program of the European Commission aims to improve the access to confidential microdata. One work package is proposing a European Remote Access Network (EuRAN) to address such issues. This paper is focusing on the usability of a harmonized data access system in the European Research Area. Such a system would benefit both: first researcher to find the right data for their research topic and support them during their complete research lifecycle and secondly data providers by making their data more visible and by harmonizing data access infrastructures.     "The Research Data Centre (FDZ) of the German Federal Employment Agency (BA) at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) provides data on individuals, households and establishments, as well as data that comprise both establishment and personal information. The FDZ data originate from three different sources. From the notification process of the social security system and the internal procedures of the Federal Employment Agency process-generated data are obtained. Furthermore, the IAB acquires data by conducting own surveys. The use of weakly anonymous data is subject to restrictions concerning data protection legislation. Due to these regulations the data can be analyzed only via on-site use. For this purpose, the FDZ provides separate workplaces for guest researchers in Nuremberg and further locations in Germany and in the USA. Nevertheless transnational access to confidential microdata - although there are some developments like 'Data without Boundaries' - is still complicated and needs improvement. The first part of the paper describes the (international) access to highly sensitive German administrative labour market data and how this international access is expanded within the research data centre in research data centre (RDC in RDC) approach. In the second part a broader view of international access to official microdata in the EU will be given.     "Der Jahresbericht 2011-13 gibt einen Überblick über Aufgaben und Aktivitäten des Forschungsdatenzentrums (FDZ) der Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA) im Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung (IAB). Die zentralen Tätigkeiten des FDZ - Individualdatensätze aufzubereiten und der wissenschaftlichen Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung zu stellen - werden anhand von Kennzahlen zur Datennutzung dargestellt. Diese Kennzahlen belegen, dass sich das FDZ mit seinem mittlerweile zehnjährigen Bestehen als Lieferant hochwertiger Individualdaten in der Forschungslandschaft nicht nur etabliert hat, sondern einer der international sichtbaren Akteure auf dem Gebiet des Datenzugangs geworden ist. Weitere Schwerpunkte der Arbeit lagen in der Bereitstellung der Daten auf internationaler Ebene sowie im zunehmenden Engagement in drittmittelfinanzierten Forschungsprojekten. Dieser Dreijahresbericht dokumentiert darüber hinaus, wie die Datensätze und Aktivitäten des FDZ ihren Niederschlag in zahlreichen Publikationen, Vorträgen und Veranstaltungen fanden.     "In diesem Report wird ein von den Autoren entwickeltes Stata-Programm zum Splitten von Episodendaten vorgestellt und detailliert beschrieben, das sich auch für sehr umfangreiche und/oder tagesgenau gemessene Episodendaten - wie etwa die SIAB-Daten - eignet. Zusätzlich wird die Generierung von Variablen behandelt, die parallele Episodentypen im gesplitteten File sowohl in einer numerischen als auch in einer für Menschen unmittelbar lesbaren Stringvariante anzeigen. Diese sind vor allem hilfreich für die Aufbereitung und Edition von gesplitteten Episodenfiles. Die verwendete Syntax wird ausführlich erläutert, so dass dieser Methodenreport auch als Anleitung zur Entwicklung von Stata-Syntax für ähnlich gelagerte Datenaufbereitungsaufgaben dienen kann."     "We perform a record linkage of survey data from the project 'Interactions Between Capabilities in Work and Private Life: A Study of Employees in Different Work Organizations', a sub-project of the research group 'From Heterogeneities to Inequalities' at Bielefeld University, with administrative social security data from the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) at the German Federal Employment Agency. We describe both data sets with regard to the identifiers available for the record linkage (such as names and addresses), as well as the methods and procedures that were used for this record linkage.     "Seit der Einrichtung des FDZ im Jahre 2004 ist die Nutzung der Daten der BA und des IAB kontinuierlich gestiegen. Dies liegt zum einen an den einzigartigen administrativen Daten und den Befragungsdaten des IAB, die für die Forschung im Sozialleistungsbereich und der Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung von großer Bedeutung sind, und zum anderen an dem sehr guten Zugang für die Forschungsgemeinschaft im In- und Ausland. Das FDZ arbeitet stetig an der (technischen) Verbesserung der Datenzugangswege sowie der Informationsvermittlung und an der Erweiterung des Datenangebots mit Hilfe von drittmittelfinanzierten Kooperationsprojekten.     "Remote data access, defined as the ability of a researcher to access and evaluate restricted micro data via a secure internet connection from his home desktop computer at any time, has not been implemented by a German Research Data Centre (RDC) so far. Privacy regulations and especially the problem of access control are reasons why German RDCs are not able to offer restricted data via remote data access to the research community. By initiating the 'RDC-in-RDC' approach, the Research Data Centre (FDZ) of the German Federal Employment Agency (BA) at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg, Germany, aims to bring data access in Germany closer to the ideal perception of remote access. The basic idea is to allow remote data access from designated institutions with comparable standards at locations other than Nuremberg. In a first step, access to BA and IAB data will be granted from four sites in Germany and one site in the US. Moreover, the RDCin- RDC approach represents a change of paradigms in two respects. First, data access will be decentralised and the FDZ literally brings its data closer to the researchers. Second, data of the FDZ will be accessible from abroad so the dissemination of micro data will be no longer restricted to national borders. The RDC-in-RDC approach may therefore be regarded as a first step towards remote access in Germany and may also represent a blue print for an intensified international data sharing."     Das Angebot an deutschen Mikrodaten für die Arbeitsmarktforschung ist in den letzten Jahren rasch gewachsen. In dem Beitrag wird diese Entwicklung dargestellt. Drei Aspekte stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt: die Etablierung von Forschungsdatenzentren, die Entwicklung neuer Anonymisierungstechniken für Betriebsdaten sowie die Fülle wissenschaftlicher Forschungsvorhaben und Evaluationsstudien von Arbeitsmarktprogrammen auf der Grundlage prozessproduzierter Daten infolge der Reformen des Arbeitsmarktes, insbesondere nach der Reform des SGB II. In allen drei Bereichen sind deutliche Fortschritte zu verzeichnen - hinsichtlich der Verfügbarkeit geeigneter Daten, beispielsweise durch die Kombination unterschiedlicher Datensätze. Dennoch lässt sich noch manches verbessern.     "Das Forschungsdatenzentrum (FDZ) der Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA) im Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung (IAB) wurde 2004 gegründet. Seine Hauptaufgabe besteht darin, externen Forschern den Zugriff auf die Mikrodaten der BA und des IAB unter Anwendung von standardisierten und transparenten Regeln zu ermöglichen. Fünf Jahre nach seiner Gründung wird das FDZ als Produzent von innovativen Datenprodukten wahrgenommen und hat sich zu einem erkennbaren Bestandteil der Forschungslandschaft entwickelt.     Abstract

    "Das Forschungsdatenzentrum (FDZ) der BA im IAB bereitet Individualdatensätze auf, die im Bereich der Sozialversicherung und in der Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung entstehen und stellt sie für wissenschaftliche Zwecke - vorwiegend für externe Forscherinnen und Forscher - zur Verfügung.
    Der Jahresbericht 2008 basiert überwiegend auf Kennziffern, die das FDZ dem Rat für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsdaten für deren Evaluation in 2009 zur Verfügung gestellt hat. Der Bericht teilt sich in die Kapitel 'Allgemeine Aufgaben', 'Basisinformationen', 'Das serviceorientierte FDZ', 'Das internationale FDZ' und zum guten Schluss 'Das forschende FDZ'.
    Zu den Mikrodatensätzen des FDZ gehören (Stand: Dezember 2008) das IAB-Betriebspanel, die IAB-Beschäftigtenstichproben (IABS), das BA-Beschäftigten-Panel (BAP), die Stichprobe der Integrierten Erwerbsbiographien des IAB (IEBS), das Betriebs-Historik-Panel (BHP) und der Linked-Employer-Employee-Datensatz des IAB (LIAB). Neu hinzugekommen zum Datenangebot sind mit der Querschnittserhebung 'Lebenssituation und Soziale Sicherung' (LSS2005) und der ersten Welle des Panels 'Arbeitsmarkt und Soziale Sicherung' (PASS) erstmalig Datensätze aus dem SGB II Bereich. Die neueste Welle von PASS wird zeitnah zur Verfügung gestellt. Prozessdaten aus dem SGB II Bereich folgen in 2009 bzw. 2010. Diese Datensätze sind aufgrund des breiten Merkmalspektrums und der großen Fallzahlen in der Arbeitsmarktforschung von internationaler Bedeutung. Das bestehende Datenangebot wird laufend aktualisiert und durch neue Datensätze erweitert, bestehende Datenmerkmale werden bereinigt und neue Merkmale hinzugefügt." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)

    "This contribution shows the increasing supply on German micro data over the last years for labor market research. We focus on the research data centre movement, the development of new anonymisation techniques for establishment data, the new challenges of the social code II and the fundamental change to evaluate labor market programmes actively with administrative data. Although a lot of ongoing developments like combining different data sets are happening, we make three recommendations for future developments in this area: (1) Demand to have an influence an the data production.
