Hermann Gartner's main interest is the study of the aggregate labour market from a microeconometric perspective. This concerns especially the development of job and worker flows and of wages in the medium run and during the business cycle.

Professional career

Hermann Gartner first trained as a plumber. Having gained his university entrance qualification (Abitur) at night school he went on to study economics in Regensburg. He was research assistant at the University of Lüneburg and the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich where he received his Ph.D. (Dr.oec.publ.). He has been a researcher at IAB from February 2003 onwards. Since 2007 he is lecturer at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Hermann Gartner received in 2015 his habilitation for economics from the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
